Assistant Store Manager Wanted - St Kilda

READINGS BOOKS MUSIC & FILM, ST KILDA, VIC

This is a great opportunity for an experienced bookseller who’s looking to take the next step in their career. 

This permanent full-time role reports to the store manager. In addition to general shop duties, you will assist in managing staff and delegating staff duties on the shop floor, maintaining the store’s presentation, and ensuring the security of the store. You’ll provide ongoing assistance with essential operations such as cash Reconciliation, management of rosters, training of staff, and adherence to core company policies such as Occupational Health and Safety and Anti-discrimination. You will be expected to assume Store Manager responsibilities in the Manager’s absence and some evening and weekend work will be required. 

Selection criteria:

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • a solid retail sales track record, particularly in the book or music industry
  • excellent human relations, communication and organisational skills
  • an ability to lead and motivate a team
  • a confident and calm personality who gains the respect of their colleagues
  • a genuine commitment to good customer service
  • a passion for books, music & film

Also desirable are:

  • a knowledge of BookNet
  • experience of buying
  • a willingness to act as host for events
  • an interest in coordinating and convening book clubs

Bookseller Required

Pages & Pages Booksellers in Mosman is one of Sydney's leading independent bookshops with a specialised Children's bookshop. In 2005 and 2010 we were voted by publishers as Leading Edge Independent Bookseller of the Year. In 2008, we won an Australian Book Industry Award for marketing. In 2009, we were voted the Best Bookshop in the Mosman Daily Business Achiever Awards.

We are looking for an experienced bookseller to work in all areas of the shop, including receiving and dispatch. You will be required to work one weekend shift. 

Please do NOT apply if you have no bookselling experience. 

This is a full time position but still apply if you are only available to work part time. We pay above average salaries to our staff.
