After more than 30 years bookselling, we would like to retire and are offering the business for sale. We have owned and operated 3 bookshops and a music store in that time.

Reader's Companion began in 1991 as a bookshop only, but metamorphosed two years later in a book/music shop and has been operating since then in the Beardy Street Mall, retailing an extensive range of books, popular and classical CDs, DVDs and a wide range of cards.

A member of Leading Edge Books, we operate from quite large premises (about 180 square meters) with good window display to the main street.

The Language People is a small, slightly quirky, specialist bookshop in the near-city suburb of West End, Brisbane.  West End is perhaps the most ethnically and socially diverse area of Brisbane, and the shop is in the main street, as are two other iconic bookshops, Avid Reader and Bent Books.  We complement each other; we don’t compete.

The stock is English as a Second Language, Adult Literacy & Numeracy, and language-learning resources for Languages other than English, a very little literature in other languages, some children’s books, books I want to read myself, cards, a few pretty gift lines.

I need to sell the building for a realistic price. (There’s a three car-garage and a big backyard  -  loads of potential) There’s about $25,000 in stock, with a Computerlink stock control system.  The fittings are serviceable but not flash.

We have been here for 24 years and I need to stop.  We supply TAFEs, schools. ELICOSes, Unis and the public.  Most of the customers are beautiful people, devastated to hear the shop might close, as there is nothing else like it in Brisbane or, as far as I know, in Queensland.
